Transition Adaptors

Mill-Pro supplies threaded ends in "Eco Brass" a lead-free, dezincification resistant copper alloy, complying to BS EN 12168 grade CW724R (CuZn21Si3P).  Eco Brass is suitable for all above and below ground potable water connections, including connections to BS EN 1982 CC419K red brass valve, only when installed in a potable water systems.

To avoid Galvanic corrosion between materials installed in saltwater (flushing) system, CC419K Red Brass valves should not be connected to any 'typical' copper alloy fittings. (Typical being, most copper alloys including Eco Brass typically used in waterworks networks).  In the case that Red Brass valves are used in saltwater, either of the following precautions should be taken when connecting to the valve:

  • Use a WSD approved nonmetallic mechanical joiner - such as Pushfit Adaptor male / BSP-PE
  • Use a nonmetallic (Polypropelyene) threaded adaptor between the fittings to provide insulation.

NOTE: Galvanic corrosion occurs when dissimilar metals (a Cathode and Anode that are far apart on the galvanic table) are physically connected to each other (have conductivity, ie: no insulation between them) and have a common medium connecting them that completes an electrical circuit.  Flushing (salt) water is a medium that creates such an electrical circuit, where the least noble metal (standard copper alloys) will sacrifice themselves to the 'more Nobel' Red Brass when directly connected to each other. Testing in Hong Kong has proven that BS EN 1982 CC419K Red Brass, when threaded into various grades of typical copper alloys, may give rise to galvanic corrosion when installed in a flushing (salt) water pipe system.  Testing also proved that no notable galvanic corrosion occurred when Eco brass and Red brass were connected to each other in a freshwater system in Hong Kong.

Threaded Transition Adaptor / UAN / Male / PN16 / SDR11

The Friatec male threaded transition adaptor is a WIS 4-24-01 Type 1 compliant spigot fitting, with an Eco Brass, dezincification resistant, lead-free copper alloy male thread.  The thread is non-rotatable and is not removable from the adaptor. The adaptor is fused to the PE pipe using an MB coupler to provide a threaded connection for small diameter copper alloy valves.

Note: Friatec transition adaptors are NOT suitable for use in Flushing/saltwater systems when connecting directly (without insulation) to a BS EN 1982 CC419K 'Red Brass" valves, as Galvanic corrosion may occur.

Threaded transition Adaptor / UAM / Female / PN16 / SDR11

The Friatec threaded female transition adaptor is a WIS 4-24-01 Type 1 compliant spigot fitting, with an Eco Brass, dezincification resistant, lead-free copper alloy female thread. The thread is non-rotatable and is not removable from the adaptor. The adaptor is fused to the PE pipe using an MB coupler to provide a threaded connection for small diameter copper alloy valves.

Note: Friatec transition adaptors are NOT suitable for use in Flushing/saltwater systems when connecting directly (without insulation) to a BS EN 1982 CC419K 'Red Brass" valves, as Galvanic corrosion (see above) is likely to occur.
